Welcome to the Hudswell & District Parish Council Website
The parish is located in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
In May 2013, the Parish of Hudswell (which already included the hamlet of Brokes) welcomed the wards of Downholme, Stainton and Walburn to join them forming Hudswell & District Parish Council.
Hudswell and Downholme are both mentioned in the Domesday Book, completed in 1086 for William the Conqueror. In 1086 the Tenant-in-chief for the villages, and for the wider administrational district was Count Alan of Brittany, and the Lord Enisant Musard.
Today, the parish is a thriving community, we have two pubs; Yorkshire’s first community owned pub, the George & Dragon in Hudswell and the Bolton Arms in Downholme, a little local shop, library, community allotments and affordable homes built by the Hudswell Community Charity. The development of the Hudswell Hostel (in the former church) is the latest project which is sited on the new pilgrimage route “Camino Ingles”.
The Parish Map shows the boundary administered by Hudswell & District Parish Council.
